A736 CLOSURE FOR RESURFACING MARCH / APRIL 2017

At our CC meeting on Monday 16th January it was agreed that a meeting be arranged with Roads Department to discuss the planned closure.  This will be attended by representatives of both Uplawmoor and Neilston Community Councils and ERC elected members.

See the closure notice here.

Update – 07/02/2017

RESPONSE FROM ROADS DEPARTMENT

Thanks for the meeting of last Thursday to discuss the Lochlibo Road resurfacing proposals.

As discussed, and following contact with Police Scotland, the speed limit on Uplawmoor Road (between the extents of the 30mph limits of Neilston and Uplawmoor) and Shillford Mill Road will be reduced to 40mph for the duration of both phases of the resurfacing works. This temporary reduced speed limit will be reinforced by repeater 40mph signs in both directions.

Update – 05/02/2017

Representatives from Uplawmoor and Neilston Community Councils accompanied by Councillors Elaine Green and Paul O’Kane met on 2 nd February with officers from ERC Roads Department to discuss the resurfacing/closure of the A736 and the planned traffic diversions.

The work will be carried out in 2 phases. Phase 1 from 6 th to 31 st March 2017 involves closure of the A736 from its junction with Holehouse Brae in Neilston to Shillford Mill Road, Uplawmoor. Traffic will be diverted from Barrhead via Neilston to Uplawmoor Road then turning right at Shillford Mill Road to join the A736 and vice versa. Traffic lights will be in operation at both ends of Shillford Mill Road.

Phase 2 from 3 rd to 28 th April 2017 involves closure of the A736 from Shillford Mill Road to its junction with Neilston Road, Uplawmoor. Traffic will be diverted at Shillford Mill Road leading to Uplawmoor Road, through Uplawmoor village to re-join the A736 and vice versa.

We requested a traffic light/convoy system be put in place but have been advised by ERC that statutory regulations do not permit them to operate such a system on a carriageway of this width.

As a result, we have stressed the need for increased speed signage in Neilston, the road between Neilston and Uplawmoor and also in Uplawmoor village.

We have also requested that a temporary speed limit be implemented between Neilston and Uplawmoor.

The school crossing patrol on Neilston Road was also raised as a major concern.

When a response to our request is provided we will immediately make this

available.
