The Uplawmoor Community Council recently hosted a meeting with local community groups to look at how we can continue to grow engagement, share information, and support the fantastic work happening across our village.
Uplawmoor has a long tradition of well attended events – from the Gala Day to the Burns Supper – and it is clear from the conversations on the night that there is a strong desire to keep the spirit alive, and involve even more people in the life of the community.
Here’s a quick overview of what was discussed and how you can get involved.
What We’re Working On
- A shared community calendar – We’re asking all local groups to share their 2025 events calendar with the Community Council. This will help us create a single calendar that shows what’s happening, when it’s happening, and who to contact. It’ll be shared both digitally and in paper form – a useful resource for everyone.
- A new village newsletter – We’re planning to launch a twice-yearly printed newsletter to be delivered to every home in Uplawmoor. It’ll include events, updates from local groups, and how to get involved. The first edition is planned for October, and will also help form a welcome pack for residents moving into the village.
- A Village Census/Community Survey – To help us plan future activities, secure funding, and understand how best to support the village. The Uplawmoor Development Trust will lead a new village survey similar to the one they carried out in 2013. You’ll have the chance to tell us what matters to you, and how you’d like to get involved in the future.
Other Topics Raised
- A proposal to improve access to the Glen’s burn for education and public use.
- Interest in a new pickleball court (indoor and outdoor)
- Calls to improve the village notice board and revisit local transport issues
- A suggestion for another community Barn Dance in the future.
Want to get involved?
- Add your group’s events to the 2025 calendar
